(The jewel of Ladakh Alchi monastery)

Most people presume that Buddhism first came to Ladakh from Tibet, but actually Buddhism first came to the region via Kashmir.

The few surviving monasteries of the 11th century bring to light important aspects of the development of Buddhist art in the Himalayan region and its deep connections with the philosophy and art of eastern India and Kashmir.

This Gompa lies on the bank of river Indus and is the only Gompa in Ladakh on flat ground. It shows a distinct Kashmiri influence in its art and architecture and houses many beautiful images of Buddha

Itinerary

Day 01: Delhi to Leh (3500m)

Arrival at Leh airport, to be received by our representative and transferred to the Hotel. Check in to the hotel for a complete day of rest wherein the Hotel will serve welcome tea and coffee. After lunch visit Leh Market, Leh Palace, Sankar Monastery and Shanti Stupa. Overnight Hotel.

Day 02: A Complete day of visit to the monasteries (104 Km)

After breakfast drive to visit the Shey castle there is a sacred copper-guilt statue of lord Buddha, about 37ft. tall it was renowned as being the only one of it’s kind in that era, not even in Tibet, Thiksey monastery renowned for Maitreya Buddha or future Buddha which is in a sitting position, wearing a golden crown 15 meters in height, Hemis monastery most famous one in Ladakh built in1630, still hundreds of monks live there and has a huge monastery and host a grand museum. Return to Leh in the evening. Overnight Hotel.

Day 03: MONASTRIES AND VILLAGE VISIT

Leh-Lamayuru- Alchi- Liker (125km/5 hours)

After breakfast drive to Lamayuru monastery and village to visit the mesmerizing moon landscape and one of the oldest monastery in Ladakh 11th century old and famous Indian sage Naropa meditate here in a cave. After visiting Lamayuru visit Alchi monastery and village where you will be visiting the jewel of Ladakh famous for centuries old wall

Paintings and murals, Mandalas, early wooden architecture, life size clay Buddha statues still surviving. (UNESCO world Heritage site) overnight stay at Alchi.

Day 04: Stay in Alchi Village, day at leisure starting early morning walk around monastery and village waking along the mighty Indus River. Breakfast at resort day at leisure and afterwards visit to monastery on your will. Overnight in Alchi

Day 5: Back to Leh

After breakfast drive to Liker monastery,the monastery was founded in 1088 and in 1470 got larger. The name Likir means “The Naga – Encircled”, representing the bodies of the two great serpent spirits, the Naga-rajas, Nanda and Taksako, afterwards  Drive back to Leh.

Day 6: Explore Leh Town, Leh Palace and in the evening you can stroll to the market area for shopping souvenirs at your own convenience. Overnight Hotel in Leh.

Day 07: Departure from Leh

After a short pilgrim with lots of good memories you will be drop to airport by our company representative for your further journey.
