It is a very imposing monastery and one of the finest examples of Ladakhi architecture of any type. The 12 storey building contains numerous stupas, statues, thankas and wall paintings as well as a large pillar engraved with the Buddha’s teachings. The main prayer hall has a50 feet high seated Buddha’s figure. Overnight :- Hotel

Drive to the Khardung La
As part of our acclimatisation process we take a jeep drive up to the Khardung La, a spectacular pass which at 5300 metres is probably the highest motorable road in the world. This remote road leads to the Nubra valley and the mountains to the north of Leh, and until recently it was closed to foreign travellers. The panoramic views from the pass extend right into the Zanskar Range beyond the Indus River. We can spend time at the pass, gasping in the rarefied atmosphere, before returning to our hotel in Leh. Overnight :- Hotel

We take a one hour drive to Spituk, the closest road access to Stok Kangri. We then start our trek with an easy introductory walk of four hours until we reach Zingchan. Overnight camp.

Day 08 :- Base Camp – Stok Kangri (6150 m) – Base Camp (5000 m) :- 10 hrs
We start climbing in the early hours of the morning to avail of the best weather conditions and a possible sunrise at the summit. First we climb onto a ridge which leads to a large glacier. After crossing the glacier we ascend steeply to the summit. This last leg is the most difficult and takes a lot of physical and mental strength. The panoramic view from the summit is second to none. To the north-west the Karakoram Range, including K2 (8611 m), seems endless. One can also see the Zanskar Range and view Tibet in the distance, an outstanding vista of snow-capped peaks.
